The Sunshine Coast Falcons wish to advise that we will not be holding Open Trials for our 2026 Junior Representative teams.
After a thorough review, we believe the open trial process does not provide players with the best opportunity to demonstrate their true skill sets. Last year we had over 250 players trial for 2 teams. Factors such as a wide range of player capabilities, unfamiliarity with teammates, players trialing out of position, and some individuals overplaying in an effort to stand out can impact both individual and team performance.
Through extensive discussions with our stakeholders, we have developed a new selection model – the SC Falcons Elite Pathways Combine (EPC). This invite-only event will welcome approximately 40 local rugby league players per team to achieve selection in our pre-season squads. Each local club will have the opportunity to nominate two or three players for the combine, where participants will undertake physical performance testing, skill-based drills, and small-sided games designed to allow them to showcase their talents in a more suitable environment.
We are determined to open genuine pathways to the SC Falcons for the entire rugby league playing community in the region. By consulting with local clubs and schools on player development and ability, the SC Falcons can assist in preparing, developing, and most importantly retaining the best talent on the Coast once the Junior Representative season concludes.
We acknowledge that some aspiring players will miss the chance to trial this year. To those players, we encourage you to return to your local clubs and schools, continue to work hard, and strive for selection in future seasons. Success in rugby league requires resilience, determination, and a commitment to continual improvement. All great players, past and present, have had to overcome various types of adversity.
Finally, we want to reassure all stakeholders on the Sunshine Coast that our coaching and recruitment team is constantly identifying talented athletes who not only display high-level playing ability but also uphold the values that reflect our club and region with pride.
