By Jordan Herbet

The Sunshine Coast Falcons defeated the Souths Logan Magpies in a comeback 52-to-32-point win at Davies Park on Sunday afternoon.

It was a high scoring round nine clash with a total of 84 points being scored in the match. It was the falcons who came away with the win now placing them in 4th position on the Hasting Deering’s Colts ladder. The Falcons were without their star fullback Blake Wilson for this weekends clash.

It was the home team to cross the try line first in the 2nd minute of play through their centre Fa’ata’ape Timai but an unsuccessful conversation from their goal kicker Joshua James 4-0. It didn’t take the Magpies long to cross over again, another four pointer in the 8th minute from the winger Leevai Sutton. Another unsuccessful conversation from the home team meant the score broad read 8-0.

However, it was the Falcons time to shine through their captain Jaiden Zanchetta, a missed conversation from Jai Smoothy meant the away team trailed by four points. 8-4 Magpies.

The score board seemed to be going back and forth from both team with four tries scored in the space of 15 minutes. Two tries from both teams in the 23rd from Magpies halfback Joshua James, 30th minute from Magpies Benjamin Smith and then it was the home team who struck two quick tries in before halftime through interchange player Nick Ellems and halfback Jaiden Zanchetta.

The Falcons trailed at halftime 20 points to 16.

It was like a replay of the first half with the Magpies scoring in just the first two minutes of play once again, through their second rower Feao Maka.

A fired-up Falcons team weren’t going to give up, back to back tries from the away team. In the 47th minute of play Pat McGinn went over for his first of the afternoon. Followed shortly after by star hooker Jai smoothy who scored his first in the 50th minute.

Just four minutes after the Falcons were in again through their prop Matthew Baker. Then it was Kaleb Sutton time to shine getting his first but not last in the 62nd minute of the game.

The home team scored their last try of the afternoon in the 65th minute with their second rower Feao Maka getting his double for the match.

The falcons finished up the game with two quick tries before fulltime in the 74th minute through Dylan Carolan and in the 77th for Kaleb Sutton to get his double.

The finale score in the round nine clash of the Hasting Deering Colts competition was Falcons 52 Magpies 32.

Another great kicking performance from the falcons kicking 8 from 9 with Smoothy kicking 6 from 7 and Joseph Lowe kicking 2 from 2.

A Beautiful comeback victory for Jamie Vogler and his team who take on the Tweed Seagulls in a fortnights time on Saturday the 3rd of July at Piggabeen Sports Complex.
