What a great first-up win from the Vantage Homes Falcons over the Redcliffe Dolphins on Saturday evening, 24 – 4 , to bring the James Ackerman Cup back to Sunshine Coast Stadium in RD 1 of the Hostplus Cup.
The James Ackerman Cup is played in memory of our former friend and team mate James Ackerman, who tragically passed away whilst playing for the Falcons in 2015.
It was an emotional evening for all concerned as Rupert McCall’s Ode to Ackers was played on the big screen before the match and both teams lined up on the field alongside James’ parents Michael and Sonya, son Ollie and brothers Michael and Tom.
The Falcons continually had to dig deep throughout the match, as Ackers used to, with our rock-solid defence turning the Redcliffe attack away time after time.
The Falcons attack, particularly in the first half, looked slick with the new look Falcons spine of Tyson Smoothy (9), Luke Polselli (1), Dan Atkinson (7), and Jack Wright (6) all combing well to steer the team around the park.
Falcons hooker and captain for this match Tyson Smoothy took out the Macca’s Round 1 Player of the Match judged by head coach Brad Henderson.
